Drone and GIS Mapping
They say data is beautiful, but when managing deer, visualised data is a powerful tool in aiding identification of patterns and trends ultimately leading to better management decisions. Wouldn't it be great if we could predict more accurately or use time more efficiently? This is where GIS mapping comes in.
By collecting field gathered data on impact and activity then overlaying different data sets we begin to build up a picture of the way deer interact with the landscape; times of day, seasonality, weather and food abundance all shape how deer move through an environment.
When combined with drone mapping GIS becomes even more powerful. We can map a property in high resolution, both 2D and 3D, which gives us a detailed image of a site allowing us to execute a project more efficiently by indicating the areas likely to hold deer.
In the near future we are also expecting to be able to offer thermal deer counting as a service.
